Meg Kynsh - Portraits

Meg is thrilled to have her first PLP exhibit. After studying art at Pratt Institute, she pursued a business career. During those years she continued developing her artistic talents at the PA Academy of Fine Art, concentrating in portraiture.  In this collection, she draws you into the world and experiences of her subjects. Thank you for taking the time to view my portraits. 

I view each piece as a person ready to be viewed.  It is less a moment in time for that person [which a camera would capture] than a composite of them over time.  The settled nature of their bodies invites us to take some time and explore their visual selves.  While some have piercing gazes, others wait in repose. 

My formal training started at Pratt Institute and Art Center College of Design.  For the past few decades, I have been training at Pennsylvania Academy of the Art; first exploring the still life with Jan Baltzell, and currently portrait painting with Ted Xaras. With one or two exceptions, I paint in oils with the limited color palette of Thomas Sully, a 19th century portrait painter from Philadelphia.  My current challenge is painting people I know, capturing their likeness, and designing a dynamic space for them to reside in.
