Craig’s captivating acrylic paintings reflect a lifelong love of drawing and painting. Entering his world of mostly Pocono-inspired scenes you'll see his mastery of contrasts and the unexpected: warm and cool greens against pink roads, light, patterns, and shapes. He has shared his talents with the community generously teaching drawing in the Arts Center, as well as many years lettering the trail signs that keep us all from getting lost in the woods.
I am pretty much self-taught. I started drawing as a kid to entertain myself. I tried oils for a few years after college and took some evening classes. Next I tried water colors taking classes from Jean Littlefield. I was intimidated by that medium and didn’t paint again until I retired about ten years ago. I decided the medium for me was acrylics: fun like oils, water clean-up, odorless and dries up quickly matching my attention span. I was helped along in this endeavor by attending several plein air classes taught by the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts faculty. I did some drawing again recently as a teacher in the PLP Arts Center.

The colors, the water and its movement, the grasses, the amazing clouds, different shaped evergreens and (yes) beech trees all inspire me. Oh, and the pink roads. The rest of the paintings are things that have caught my eye as we have traveled around a bit. I am interested in the unexpected: light, color, and patterns and shapes.

All of the paintings are on board and vary in size from 36 x 24 inches to 10 x 6 inches. Some are plein air, but most are painted from photographs. It is a privilege to be able to show you these.
